A Season of Hope: Sayulita Turtle Camp’s 2025–26 Journey

Every year, under moonlit skies and along quiet stretches of sand, something extraordinary happens in Sayulita.

During the 2025–26 season, Sayulita Turtle Camp — now completing its 14th year — once again proved what is possible when a community chooses to protect life.

This season, volunteers rescued an astounding 318 vulnerable turtle nests, carefully relocating them to safety in the nursery where they could incubate undisturbed until their release. From those nests, more than 26,000 hatchlings made their first journey to the ocean — tiny flippers pushing forward, each one a powerful reminder that hope is still very much alive.

Guardians of the Ocean: The Next Generation

One of the most meaningful achievements of the season was the creation of “Guardians of the Ocean,” a children’s volunteer group built on curiosity, responsibility, and heart.

Throughout the season, these young volunteers — ages 4 to 10 — learned about sea turtle species, nesting cycles, threats to survival, and the importance of protecting coastal ecosystems. But they didn’t just learn in theory — they showed up.

Every Sunday, before the local roosters woke up, the group patrolled the beaches alongside adult volunteers. They rescued thousands of eggs from dangerous locations, helped clean and prepare nests at the nursery, and participated in hatchling releases — carefully guiding baby turtles toward the sea while educating visitors along the way.

Their dedication, enthusiasm, and pride served as a powerful reminder that conservation is strongest when it is shared across generations.

A Community Effort

This season, Sayulita Turtle Camp is deeply thankful for the volunteers and community members who continue to support this important program.

To those who:

  • Walked the beaches late at night
  • Woke before sunrise for patrols
  • Helped at hatchling releases
  • Carefully tended nests
  • Educated visitors
  • Gave their time selflessly

Thank you.

And to the families who made conservation part of daily life — your commitment and encouragement made this work possible. This program thrives because conservation in Sayulita is truly a family effort.

Equally vital was the support of the greater Sayulita community. Donations, supplies, shared resources, and ongoing encouragement kept the program running day after day. Every contribution — large or small — directly supported nest protection, volunteer coordination, educational outreach, and the safe release of hatchlings.

The success of this season reflects a community that values its wildlife and is willing to invest in its future.

Looking Ahead

As this season closes, one truth remains clear: every hatchling that reached the ocean carried the fingerprints of an entire community.

“When a hatchling reaches the sea, it does not go alone. It carries the footsteps, the hands, and the hearts of everyone who helped it get there.”

From all of us at Sayulita Turtle Camp — thank you for believing, for showing up, and for protecting life.

We’ll be back next season, bigger and stronger than ever: July to December 2026
